A long time ago I had collected some Indian tunes (there’s also one from across the western border) in the MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) format. Thought of passing them on (if you were expecting MP3s or human sounds, sorry to disappoint). You can simply listen to them or karaoke or use them as mobile phone ringtones (except for the National Anthem). The biggest advantage of MIDIs is their size, only a few kilobytes and that’s all. But to save on server space and ease downloading especially on ultra-low bandwidth connections like mine, I’ve zipped the files. Hope you don’t mind the unzipping process (pun, if any, unintended).

is iot possible to burn these on a cd?? coz my comp is deaf and dumb.. the sound card dosn’t work:(
Dwaipayan, I think you can, after saving them onto your disk if you have a CD writer, though i am not a techie.
Good collection, sammy. My connection is slow, so I will be downloading them tonight. Whats with the national anthem , we are not supoosed to use it as ring tone is it?
Nice collection :)…i’m playin them rite now .btw “The solo quality cigarette song in Hindi films.” – whats that funda?
a man with good music taste too .. you really are a rare breed 😉
Dwaipayan Yes, you can. But what’s the point of writing 200 KB of stuff in a CD that can hold 700 MB. But then most music systems would not recognise the MIDI format. You can convert the MIDI into wav or mp3 and then burn it onto a CD. But wait a little, I have a few more collections to post.
Appu Not it isn’t that. It just doesn’t hear right listening to the National Anthem blaring as a polyphonic ringtone from a cellphone. And in case you want an mp3 of Jana Gana Mana, you can download it from here [MP3 816KB 128kbps Stereo 44kHz 00:00:52].
National Anthems of over 130 countries of the world (in MIDI format) is available on this page.
BVN The logic is simple, there haven’t been too many songs on smoking in Hindi cinema and this song picturised on Dev Anand is the only quality song that I can recall from this nonexistent genre.
San Ahem! Thank you! Thank you! But don’t men and good taste go together?
Thank you… you have a good selection of songs there (some of which I already have… others I might check out and download)…
I did however d-load the Jana Gana Mana… thank you for that… it made me go ‘tingly’ (for want of a better word) to hear the tune of our national anthem again…
I have a small question, however, re: the national anthem. I have asked many people about this, and I have been hearing the same two answers, so I would like to know how you have been taught it…
in the lyrics, does it go Dravida, Utkala, Banga
or:
Dravida, Utkala, Vanga ?
hey soum, I’m not in hurry. neither do I have any plan to burn the cd. it’s only that if these songs weren’t ready to be burn , I’d have bug you repeatedly to convert them and then i’d lyaad khao..:)
Sunshine It’s B – “Dravida-Utkala-Banga.”
Dwaipayan You keep on waiting.
THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS 😀
